Ways We Sabotage Ourselves

DSCN4773Whether we are aware or not of our inner saboteur, I’ve noticed that the closer a person gets to spiritual ascension, the more they grab for their addictions.

Now, I’ve seen this played out in people around me who take spiritual classes and workshops or study with a spiritual teacher, but then outside of meditation, they engage in dark practices. Granted, old habits die hard in that we don’t often notice the ways we sabotage ourselves, until possibly after suffer from fatigue, illness, or lethargy or even envy of others who have obtained spiritual mastery.

So in case you’re wondering about the culprits that prevent our ascension into higher dimensions, I’m leaving you with a short list. Feel free to add to this list and feel free to be honest with yourself. Do you even want to ascend at this time? Maybe you don’t and engaging in dark practices helps you stay grounded in 3-D reality and relate to others here. After all, spiritual ascension is a lonely business that to some might lack excitement and drama. This is not a judgement, but an observation to help you gain some clarity about your inner workings.

List of Saboteurs:

Engaging in meaningless sex

Manipulating and controlling the behavior of others

Watching violent movies or television shows

Listening to or performing angry music

Involvement with pop culture of any kind

Addiction to news media

Following fashion and other popular trends (to fit in)

Working for an employer that doesn’t have the planets best interest in mind

Eating junk food (and GMO)

Using profanity or listening to others use it

Criticizing others instead of lifting them up

Refusing to forgive others

Projecting shadows onto others instead of taking responsibility

Using “I Am” to your detriment by following it with negativity

Involve yourself with “can’t” instead of “can”

Smoking, vapor, drugs, alcohol, gambling & other addictions

Acting like a predator

Enslaving others

Using others for sex

Stealing other people’s energy

Narcissistic behavior

Some of the items on this list are obvious ones, others might surprise you. While none of us will erase all our bad habits overnight, at least tackle one or two and this will take you closer to spiritual ascension if that’s what you choose. Like it or not, everyone on this planet as well as the planet are ascending now.

This doesn’t mean that you have to quit your job and travel to Machu Pichu or join a monastery unless that’s your path. But allow the awakening to occur and as it does, your darker habits will become apparent to you as will ways to heal them. When the student is ready the teacher arrives. Blessings on your path.

One last thing I want to leave you with, if you haven’t watched Tom Shadyac’s “I Am” a documentary that explores the world to find out what’s wrong with the planet and finds what’s right with it, please watch this movie. Apparently, humans are not wired for war and conflict, but for compassion and cooperation. This idea changes everything.

I reside in the rainy Pacific NW (Washington State) where I write novels, short "green" fiction, and poetry. I also go for walks capturing the beauty around me on my digital and freelance as an arts and culture journalist. When I'm not doing all of the above (and sometimes multi-tasking), I research the healing power of music. You can learn more about that at Whole Music Experience, www.wholemusicexp.blogspot.com and I teach workshops on healing with music.
